Monty - a 1930s Legend
1939 Austin 18/6 Gordon & Co, 7 seat, 'Royal' limousine. The limousine has been a chauffeured /wedding car for much of its life, and may be the last remaining road worthy example. As legend has it, an Admiralty fleet car when new reputedly transporting a certain Lieutenant-Colonel Montgomery to the review of the fleet in Portsmouth in 1939. Evidence of this type of use is illustrated by the very rare spoon 'arrowhead' on the cowl used to mount a flagstaff for official duties. The car was first registered in Portsmouth in September 1939, on the day World War II broke out.
